Litigation Committee Report for 2017 - 2018

SLCU National Essay Writing Competition

Object: As a part of the decennial celebrations of School of Law, Christ, the online competition aimed at channelizing thoughts and views on the theme science, technology and the constitution of India. Open to law and non-law students from all over India, the competition invited essays of contemporary value on specified themes.

The key to a successful career in the legal fraternity is a combination of excellent research skills and a superior command over the legal language among other things. The legal essay writing competition will be held around a central theme which the authors will be notified about and will require a detailed, well-researched novel idea which is comprehensive in its approach and factually accurate. Following are the details of the event:

THEME: SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND THE CONSTITUTION OF INDIA

Subthemes: Subtopics for submission may include but are not limited to:
a. The Penumbra of privacy
b. The Principles of Constitutional governance
c. Freedom of the electronic press

Lex Scripta- Edition VIII

‘Lex Scripta’, a bi-annual e-magazine, is an initiative of the Litigation Committee to provide a platform for students of School of Law, Christ Deemed to be University to hone their research and writing skills.

The committee invited entries for Lex Scripta from the student body of School of Law, Christ on specified themes under three different categories. The magazine in the current edition introduced new sections such as the alumni interviews and a timeline of legal events, compiled by the committee.

Details: The three different categories under which the committee invited entries are (i) Article Writing (ii) Book Review and (iii) Take a Stand. The details regarding themes and sub-themes are-

1. Category I – Article Writing
 a. Regulation of Bitcoin : Impact on e-commerce
 b. GST in India: A Key Tax Reform
 c. The legitimacy of Forced Discipline: Perspectives on Freedom of Speech and Expression

2.Category II – Book Review
This category is restricted to any non-fiction legal book. It is aimed at giving the magazine a creative touch, while remaining informative at the same time.

3. Category III – Take a Stand
 a. The Rohingya dilemma in India
 b. DNA Profiling v. Right to Privacy
 c. The Conflict between Economic Development and Environmental Sustainability

Entries selected to be awarded: Best entry from each category will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1000.
